Derwen
Where we Are here Map
Sut i gyrraedd yno: Dilynwch yr A494 o Ruthun Mae Eglwys y Santes
Fair yng nghanol Derwen. Ni wyddys ei tharddiad a’r cofnod cyntaf ohoni
yw 1254. Mae calon ganol oesol i’r eglwys hardd ac mae’n debygol bod y
to agored a’r groglen yn deillio o’r 15fed ganrif. Mae’n bosibl bod rhan
o’r eglwys wedi’i hail adeiladu tua’r adeg hon. Yn y fynwent gallwch
weld croes hardd o’r 15fed ganrif yn darlunio coroni’r Wyryf, y
Croeshoeliad, y Wyryf a’r Plentyn ac angel â chlorian a dybir i fod yn
un y Sant Mihangel. Gerllaw, mae’n bosibl gweld Bwncathod yn hedfan yn
yr awyr gyda’u hadenydd llydan
â thyllau ar y blaen, plu brown a llinellau oddi tanynt.

How to get there: Follow the A494
from Ruthin St Mary's church is situated in the heart of Derwen, its
origins are unknown and the first record
of it is in 1254. The appealing
church has a medieval core and fine exposed roof and rood screen, all of
which are probably 15th century. Some of the church was perhaps rebuilt
around this time. In the churchyard you will notice a very fine 15th century
churchyard cross
depicting
the
Coronation of the Child Virgin and the crucifixion, incorporating an
angel with scales assumed to be St Michael. Nearby it is possible to
spot buzzards flying up in the skies with broad slotted tip wings, dark
brown plumage and streaks on its paler underside.
