Clawddnwydd & Clocaenog Sportsday

Report

Yet again, Clawddnewydd and Clocaenog sports day on the 30th of July was blessed with fabulous weather, bringing in many more people to the ever growing show.

A big thank you to Mrs Myfi Owen for her opening speech as the president and to her vice presidents Dafydd Roberts and Andrew Jones.

The committee would like to thank everyone that supported the show, whether by advert in the program, by attending on the day as spectator, which was a fantastic turn out, or by entering the competitions.

Many more horses & dogs entered the competitions this year and the new competitions added for the first time this year to include the fur and feather competition had an excellent first year turn out, from turkeys to goslings to cockerels and hens and rabbit and guinea pig. Ricky and Kerri Henderson, Brynhyfryd having an excellent brood, Huw and Meirion Tyn Celyn & Rhys Pen Ffrith having hens with eggs on show, Ffion and Jac Glyn Mawr with a white with black tipped selection, Siwan Rees having the only rabbit and many other competitors’ too.

Steve Matischok and Rob Lewis and football team having the shooting goal on site raised £50 for their team funds and the bouncy castle by Vale Coaching of Ruthin was another hit with the children. A couple of side stalls on the day too.

Axe Racing was again a hit of the day with Dafydd Llewelyn leading the team again to cut tables and chairs for the kids….all went to good homes I believe.

The only men allowed sweet tooth competition was entered by 6 men, 1st going to Alan Parkes, 2nd to Jan Bargiel and 3rd to Bill Cooper.

The children’s sports section were entered in excellent style, having 15 under 4’s entering the fancy dress, a record for years I would say and 4 entering the 5 – 7 year old. 1st in the under 4’s going to Ceira Williams and Megan (Maes Draw) winning the age 5 – 7 and the final competition as a tooth fairy.

The scarecrow competition this year excelled in it’s entrants….the 1st going to Simon and Angela from Derwen, 2nd to the Segwen crew and 3rd to Dylan Bryn Coch for his HUGE effort.

Raffles were won by a good mixture of local and not so local people, every raffle ticket sold out.

The fell race (Push up The Pincyn) was held again this year with a fantastic turn out of 50 locals and running club members from Wales and England for the 10km race. More details on this race can be found via the fell race website, and this website on the Pincyn page. Moyna Richie from Clawddnewydd took 8 minutes off last year’s time, so well done to Moyna.

The day was rounded off with a well attended BBQ, again the fine weather allowing people to sit outside and enjoy some extra sun.
